Location & things to do

Just 40 minutes south of the ferry at Ouistreham/Caen, suddenly the road takes a turn into a completely different landscape.  Reminiscent of the mountains of Switzerland, you now find yourself in aptly named Swiss Normandy, with its impressive cliff faces and undulating hills.  This area is unique in Normandy and is a surprise to many visitors accustomed to the somewhat level landscape of most of northern France.

Built around 250 years ago in the grounds of Chateau de Surosne, the Lodge was recently fully remodelled and now offers superior accommodation which sleeps a maximum of 10 in 4 bedrooms (two connected).  There are two bathrooms, both with showers, one with bath, a fully equipped kitchen, handy downstairs WC, large dining area and comfortable lounge area with baronial fireplace.  The private enclosed terrace has luxury seating and even a bar!

We have been hosting group breaks for over 20years and we've come to know exactly what our guests really look for, so if you're planning a special getaway, the Lodge is the perfect place for you. Located a short drive from the coast and ferry, relax in soft, velvet sofas and a spacious dining area, comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms and two gorgeous terraces to enjoy our glorious sunny weather.

Clecy, just a mile from the Lodge is a pretty, quintessentially French town where you will find a traditional boucherie, fabulous boulangerie and numerous cafe bars and shops which sell unique and vintage items.  It is the capital of Swiss Normandy, and just outside the southern end of the town, stands the impressive Viaduct de Clecy.  Built in 1866, the mighty bridge spanning the river Orne is now a hub for lovers of the outdoors.  The area is also graced with the stunning 'Rochers de l'Eminence' and standing at 253 meters,  they form the foundation for the unique variety of sports offered here. In addition to wonderful cycling, hiking and horse riding trails,  you can try para or hang-gliding, The Via Ferrata is a rock climbing adventure suitable for most abilities, and for those ultimate thrill seekers, you can zip line all the way back down to the bottom!  Of course the beautiful river Orne is at the heart of everything and water babies will not be disappointed.  Kayak or canoe down the racy waters, or on the hottest of days, dip in (although it is forbidden due to an ancient law protecting the many visitors from the splashes of enthusiastic bathers!). There is wildlife in abundance and the riverscape is simply breathtaking.  You can also take a ride on the crazy 1/4 mile Gliss (a monorail sledge), which will certainly make the heart race. Happily, the course ends close to the river's edge where numerous bars and restaurants offer food and drinks by the side of the beautiful river Orne. Check out Clecy Tourisme for more details.
